Dick's Sporting Goods recently announced that Lauren Hobart would become the company's CEO, bringing the number of women leading Fortune 500 companies to 41.
Her appointment follows news that other women have taken the helm at major companies, including Karen Lynch at CVS Health, Jane Fraser at Citigroup and Linda Rendle at Clorox; bringing the list of women at the head of Fortune 500 companies to its highest number yet.
However, according to Fortune 500 , only three of the women on the list of female CEOs are women of color, which tells us how the racial gap, when added to the gender gap, more deeply affects African-American women.

According to the latest McKinsey and Leanin Women in the Workplace report , the number of women in the C-suite grew from 17% to 21% between January 2015 and January 2020.
Closing gender gaps in leadership is essential to achieve not only parity within organizations, but also in terms of opportunities.
Female representation in the C suite allows women of the new generations to build higher aspirations and fully exploit their potential.
